Purpose:
The objective of the game is to have fun, be creative and score more points then your opponent in the duration of the game.
Game Basics: Powaa is played in four 15 minute quarters. If the score is tied after regulation time there’s a 10 minute sudden death overtime. If the game is still tied then the game goes to a 5 man shootout. Shootout continues till 1 team wins a shootout round.
Win Scoring: Wins are worth 3 points. ALL Loses are worth 0 points. A win in overtime is worth 2 points. A win in the shootout is worth 1 point.
Teams: During play each team has 1 goalie and 4 players on the playing field (or 5 if on the advantage or 3 in a disadvantage)
Scoring: Goals scored 25 feet and closer to the goalie crease are worth 1 point. 2 points are awarded to any goal scored 25.1 feet and further from the crease. Goals scored behind the goal line are worth 2 points. Goals are discounted if the last player to touch the ball is in the goalie crease.
Playing field
Powaa Terms:
Chuck rule - 3 Step :
Off/Any side rule - Floating blue line:
· Once an attacking player has crossed the blue line into the offensive zone, the red line now becomes the designated off sides line. Essentially, the blue line disappears as the off sides marker. The ball must completely clear the blue line before the player's shoes and no other attacking player can be in the zone before the ball in order for the attacking team to be considered "on sides."
· If the ball passes back over the red line (into your zone), then the "any side" rule ends. The offside rule again applies, and all of attacking players must get back on side before the play can re enter the offensive zone.
· When an offside call occurs, the penalized team must exit the offensive zone and pass the “Clear Dot” to be clear of the offside. The ball carrier must immediately dump the ball into the opponent’s clear zone. This must occur before any of the offside players can be considered clear.
Icing (no touch icing):
Goalie Saves:
Drop Ball
· The game starts off with a drop ball in the center of the rink
· Drop ball occur when there is a stoppage in the game. I.e. ball goes over the boards (if it occurs in the neutral zone).
· During a drop ball. The ball MUST make contact with the ground before any player can attempt to acquire/strike/kick. If a player touches the ball before the bounce that team loses the chance take the ball and the other team gets it.
Ways to score:
Ways you can’t score:
· You cannot throw the ball into your opponents net
When a goal is scored
· When a goal is scored the team that got scored on retrieves the ball and takes it into their clear zone and go around their net. Then play continues.
· The team that just scored must have all players across the red line (into their zone) before they can attack the ball
· They can attack if the attacking team passes their clear line.
· When a goal is scored the team that got scored on has 8 seconds to dispute the goal.
· Each team has a limit of 3 disputes per game
· If a call is not overturned, the challenging team loses a timeout.
· Any team after a goal is scored has 8 seconds to call a time out.
Time Outs
· Each team gets 3 times outs to use during each quarter. These time outs do not carry over to the next quarter or game. Each team gets 2 time outs during the overtime.
· Time outs can be ONLY called after a goal is scored or after a stoppage of play
